The Warring States period in China lasted from about 475 BCE to 221 BCE. It was part of the later Zhou period and was a time of conflict between powerful states. Seven major states competed for control of land and resources.

States such as Qin, Chu, and Zhao built large armies and developed new weapons and strategies. Fortifications and defensive walls were constructed to protect territories. Battles were frequent, and leaders worked to strengthen their governments.

This period ended when the Qin state defeated its rivals and unified China in 221 BCE. It marked a major change in Chinese political history.
