Haitian Revolution

Haitian Revolution was a major uprising in the French colony of Saint-Domingue from 1791 to 1804. Enslaved people led a revolt against colonial rule. It took place in the Caribbean.

Leaders such as Toussaint Louverture organized resistance and helped guide the movement. After years of conflict, Haiti became independent in 1804. It became the first nation created by a successful slave revolt.

This revolution is recorded in historical documents and accounts. It influenced other independence movements in the Americas.
