Geographic discoveries are new lands, routes, or regions identified through exploration. Many of these discoveries were recorded during the Age of Exploration from the 1400s to the 1600s. Explorers mapped areas that were previously unknown to them.
Voyages across oceans led to the recording of coastlines, islands, and continents on maps. In 1492, Columbus’s journey connected Europe with the Americas. Maps and charts became more detailed as knowledge increased.
Geographic discoveries are preserved in maps, journals, and navigation records. They show how understanding of the Earth changed over time.
