Ancient Rome began as a small settlement in Italy around 753 BCE. Over time, it grew into a large and powerful civilization. Rome expanded its control across Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia.
Romans built roads, aqueducts, and large buildings such as arenas and temples. Latin was the main language and influenced many modern languages. The western part of the Roman Empire lasted until about 476 CE.
Ancient Rome is studied in history through ruins, texts, and artifacts. These sources show how the empire developed and influenced later societies.
