AYN-shuhnt CHY-nuh

Ancient China is one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations, beginning over 4,000 years ago. It developed along major rivers such as the Yellow River, also called the Huang He. Early settlements grew into organized societies.

Chinese inventors created items such as paper, silk, and early compasses. Dynasties ruled the land, passing power through families over generations. Early writing systems developed into characters still used today.

Large construction projects included city walls and early defensive structures. Ancient China is studied through written records, artifacts, and preserved sites.
