Middle Ages

MID-uhl AY-jiz

The Middle Ages is another name for the medieval period, lasting from about 500 CE to 1500 CE. It mainly refers to this time in Europe. It followed the decline of the Roman Empire.

During this period, kingdoms formed across Europe, and local rulers controlled land and people. Feudal systems shaped how society was organized. Major events included the Crusades, which took place between the 1000s and 1200s.

People lived in towns, villages, and castles. The Middle Ages ended as new ideas, technologies, and stronger national governments developed.
