The medieval period in Europe lasted from about 500 CE to 1500 CE. It began after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. This time is often called the Middle Ages.

Society was organized through feudal systems, where land was controlled by lords and worked by peasants. Castles, knights, and farming communities were common features. The Christian Church played a major role in daily life and education.

Important events included the Crusades and the building of large cathedrals. The period ended with changes such as the Renaissance and increased exploration.
