First circumnavigation was the first journey around the entire Earth by sea. It began in 1519 under the leadership of Ferdinand Magellan. The expedition set sail from Spain with several ships.

Magellan died in 1521 during the journey, but his crew continued and completed the voyage in 1522. One ship returned to Spain after traveling across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. The journey covered about 70,000 kilometers.

This expedition showed that the world could be traveled by sea in a continuous route. Records from the voyage include maps and written accounts.
