Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer who reached India by sea in 1498. His journey followed a route around the southern tip of Africa, known as the Cape of Good Hope.

He sailed across the Indian Ocean to reach trading cities on the west coast of India. This route connected Europe and Asia by sea for the first time. Later voyages followed similar paths, linking distant regions through trade.
