Imperialism is a system in which a country extends its power over other territories. This control can include political authority, economic influence, or cultural presence. Powerful countries manage or influence regions beyond their own borders. People in these regions may live under this control.

Imperialism occurred in many parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Countries established control through different methods in different places. Territories could be directly governed or influenced in other ways.

Imperialism was especially common from the 1800s to the early 1900s. It was part of how global relationships were organized during that time. Different countries were involved in imperial systems across the world.
